Event | 2016 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta - Day One

The first week of October is always the best time of the year to be in Albuquerque.  The weather is perfect, the town is looking it's best, and balloons fill the sky every morning.

Today's shots weren't planned.  I got up a little late and decided to take a couple pictures from around my house of the balloons.  Then I decided to bike up to the Alameda bridge to see if I could get a few good pictures with the river.

I have long known a bicycle is the best mode of transportation for a photographer.  It provides decent speed and great mobility to areas that gnarl cars in traffic and allows new options to access areas that can't be reached by car.

Having already been pleased with the number of decent photo opportunities I had found during my ride from the Montaño bridge, I headed back when I saw a dirt walking path and decided to give it a shot - this gave me the best pictures I got of the day in a secluded area with great scenery.
