Once my wife and I arrived, we took the "natural entrance", descending 750 feet to the big room, the fifth largest cavern chamber in North America. The experience was incredible and photos don't do the place justice. We even stayed for the bat flight program, in which thousands of bats exit the cavern around sunset in search the night insects of the desert; for the sake of the bats all electronics must be powered off during the viewing.
Landscape | Carlsbad Caverns 2016
This weekend I managed to take a day off of work and explore the southwest corner of New Mexico over a long weekend. Day one of the journey featured the expansive Carlsbad Caverns, a four and a half hour drive from Albuquerque.
